Streetohome Foundation has committed $120,000 towards Imouto House for Young Women, managed by Atira, is an innovative housing program for young women aged 16 to 24 who are who are homeless or at risk of homelessness or living in unsafe/precarious housing.
The project will consist of 12 self-contained dwelling units that will created from re-purposed shipping containers, in two- three storey buildings. The housing units will be partially constructed off-site and then installed and completed in the lot adjacent to a heritage building at 120 Jackson, also owned and managed by Atira.
The shipping containers will be modified to provide 320 square foot self-contained dwelling units. This concept may have the potential to become a landmark affordable housing solution.
