Working together to break the cycle of homelessness: Goldcorp contributes $5 million to Streetohome Foundation campaign

Vancouver, BC; November 18, 2010 – Streetohome Foundation’s 10-year goal of creating 2,000 new homes for Vancouver’s most vulnerable citizens has come even closer to reality with today’s announcement of a $5 million gift from Goldcorp. This major contribution to Streetohome’s $26.5 million capital campaign will help build more than 1,000 new housing units in the next three years.

“I’m really pleased to see this kind of commitment from a corporate leader in Vancouver,” said Frank Giustra, Streetohome Foundation Capital Campaign Chair. “Goldcorp’s investment in our community will without doubt improve the lives of people in need and at risk, and will make a huge difference in our ability to provide appropriate, supported homes.”

Goldcorp is committed to making a positive difference in the communities and countries where they are located, seeking to improve social, environmental and economic circumstances.

“Enriching the communities where we live and work is extremely important to Goldcorp,” said Chuck Jeannes, President and CEO of Goldcorp. “We are pleased to support Streetohome Foundation in their mission to provide safe, decent, supportive housing for our city’s most vulnerable and homeless. Every day, we see the need in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and our hope is that this gift will help make our city a better, safer and healthier place.”

Through the campaign, $20 million has been committed to developing 1,006 new supported housing units in partnership with the City of Vancouver, Province of BC, and a number of not-for-profit service providers.
