COVID-19 Emergency Meal Distribution to Facilitate Self-Isolation by Vulnerable Populations Provides Meals Daily to 310 Vulnerable Seniors

Last week, Streetohome was pleased to announce that due to the swift response of the Giustra Foundation, we were able to launch a new initiative to provide home delivered meals to vulnerable seniors facing uncertain times in Vancouver.

The Streetohome COVID-19 Emergency Meal Distribution to Facilitate Self-Isolation by Vulnerable Populations provides meals daily to 210 vulnerable seniors living in single room occupancy (SRO) housing over two weeks. Meals will also be provided to 100 seniors living in a separate supportive housing building over two weeks. It is hoped that this will keep some of our most vulnerable citizens safe and healthy, preventing them from contracting the COVID-19 virus by facilitating self-isolation and reducing the need to go out to buy groceries.

Frank Giustra, founder of the Giustra Foundation, is a long-time supporter as well as being a Streetohome founding board member. He devotes much of his time to a variety of charitable causes, both local and international.

We are happy to hear that the Giustra Foundation is continuing to rally charitable organizations and the private sector to form partnerships to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. The Giustra Foundation has recently partnered with Food Stash Foundation to provide meals for Vancouver’s vulnerable women and their children supported by Atira Women’s Society, YWCA Cause We Care House, and three other organizations focused on vulnerable women and children.
