Board of Trade Luncheon Pictures - July 16th, 2009
As Vancouver looks to dealing with its issue of homelessness, there has never been a more important time to examine new solutions and set measurable goals. Learning from experiences in other cities with similar homelessness problems is a good place to start.
Philip F. Mangano, the former executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, joins us to share lessons Vancouver can use to tackle – and solve – this region’s homelessness crisis.
Mangano will also speak about the business case for solving homelessness and show the economic impact of housing the chronic homeless population. He will share how this approach has worked in other cities, and how those best practices may help guide our thinking in dealing with the homelessness issue in Metro Vancouver.
Discussions from this event will help structure a long-term homelessness strategy for the City of Vancouver, co-ordinated by the Streetohome Foundation. Streetohome will be launching its Six Year Homelessness Strategy in the Fall of 2009.
