Recovery Café Opens at 620 Clark Drive

It’s been a long time coming – the Kettle’s Recovery Café has officially opened its permanent site in Vancouver. This follows a temporary pop-up location in early 2022 donated by Tanjit Kalhar with equipment funded by Vancouver Police Foundation and operations funding supported by Giustra Foundation.

Surrey & White Rock Life Intentions Action Planner

Streetohome is pleased to announce that we’ve developed a Surrey/White Rock edition of the Life Intentions Action Planner & Companion Guide to Services (LIAP) to meet the goal setting and service navigation needs of homeless populations.

Thank you for having us

Connect Day is an annual event that brings together service providers from the North Shore and surrounding area into one space so that individuals can learn more about the variety of services available near them.

Streetohome releases Want2 app to help people navigate homelessness supports in Vancouver

Many individuals know what they’d like to focus on to improve their situations, but don’t know how to start or what supports are available to help them. Streetohome has developed a mobile and web app to build on the success of the original Life Intentions Action Planner paper tool, which helps individuals navigate Vancouver-based, free supports while reducing the stigma associated with homelessness.

A New Opportunity to Pursue Recovery

The clear sound of a singing bowl brings everyone’s attention to Damian Murphy, manager of the new Recovery Café pop-up located at 637 East Hastings Street in Vancouver. He asks for a moment of reflection and then proceeds with a few announcements before members come together to participate in the day’s workshops and recovery circle.

Why Sarah Volunteers

Homelessness has always been a cause close to Sarah’s heart, ever since she was a little girl. “My heart goes out to them, and I’ve always felt that I needed to help.” Sarah initially found out about Streetohome through her mother, who, knowing Sarah’s passion for the homeless, sent her Streetohome’s newsletter. Our story and mission resonated, and Sarah made Streetohome her charity of choice.

The Importance of Private Sector Involvement

Kevin Falcon has been a community leader in both the public and private sectors, serving in various senior cabinet positions in the BC government and as the VP of Anthem Properties. He joined the Streetohome Board six years ago, providing a broad perspective of the public and private sectors, honing in on their weaknesses and strengths to complement each other.

Preventing Homelessness

Homelessness is often closer to home than we may think. “There are a lot of people out there who are literally one rent cheque away from being homeless,” says Alan Peretz, Partner at KPMG and Streetohome Board Member.

Helping Individuals Navigate Services Is Key

“The Navigation Centre is a place to help navigate individuals to services… in the least intrusive way possible, so that individuals can get the help they need,” says Alan Peretz, Partner at KPMG and Streetohome Board Member.
