Research consistently shows that people who have experienced homelessness want to work and that a substantial number can secure and retain jobs, but need help overcoming barriers to employment.
Streetohome is committed to ensuring that people in our city, who are at risk of homelessness or have lived experience of homelessness have access to employment opportunities that align with their capabilities and preferences. Employment is a critical element for mental health and well-being, providing marginalized individuals with a broadened social network, a sense of belonging, an opportunity to participate more fully in society, and a door to increased income, independent living, and self-sufficiency.
Streetohome partnered with TPD, an international Workforce and HR Solutions company, to launch WorkWithUs – a new charitable staffing agency that matches individuals seeking employment with employer workforce needs. WorkWithUs has made great strides in ensuring that individuals with lived experience of homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness have access to job opportunities that meet their passions, current preferences, and longer-term employment aspirations.
WorkWithUs is currently collaborating with businesses that are looking for a unique way to contribute to their community and, at the same time, meet their workforce needs. WorkWithUs partners with supportive housing providers to ensure individuals are supported in making a smooth transition into employment – helping them achieve their career, financial, and self-sufficiency goals. These job opportunities make a significant difference in the lives of individuals who are now stably housed and ready to move forward with their lives and become fully contributing members of society. Filled jobs also contribute to alleviating the labour shortage experienced by many sectors in the Lower Mainland.
Join us in our effort to prevent homelessness and rebuild lives. If you are experiencing challenges in meeting your workforce planning needs, please get in touch with Bernadette at WorkWithUs by emailing [email protected], phoning 604-330-3516, booking a meeting, or connecting on LinkedIn.
