Finding Home, Finding Herself: Beatriz’s Story

Some journeys begin not with opportunity, but with survival.

When Beatriz arrived in Vancouver ten years ago, she faced homelessness, cultural isolation, and serious health challenges all at once. Each day was a battle just to get through.

For years, she moved through unstable housing. She tried to hold herself together, but deep down, she knew survival alone wouldn’t be enough. By 2020, she realized she needed treatment – but first, she needed safety.

That’s when she connected with STEP funded by Streetohome. Thanks to donors, Beatriz found more than a home – she found stability, peace, and the time she needed to heal.

From there, her world began to widen. She set goals, joined activities, and pursued training that rebuilt her confidence and sense of purpose. One day at a time, she moved forward until she was not just working again but serving others as a Personal Support Worker in her community.

“I wouldn’t be here without STEP,” Beatriz says. “They gave me the stability I needed to rebuild my life.”

What stayed with her most was the care, patience, and respect she received throughout the process.

Beatriz’s story is a reminder that when someone is given safety and support, they don’t just survive – they thrive. And it’s donors like you who make that possible.
