A Groundbreaking Step Toward Healing
On June 19, 2025, the North Wind Wellness Centre (NWWC) officially broke ground on a transformational new facility in Pouce Coupe, BC—an event that marks a major milestone for Indigenous-led health care and recovery in Canada. Situated on the ancestral territory of the Treaty 8 First Nations, this new Health and Wellness Centre is the first in the country to fully integrate Traditional Indigenous Healing practices with evidence-based Western medicine under one roof, using the Addiction Recovery Community Housing (ARCH) model.

John McLernon honoured at the Recovery Café
On Tuesday, November 21st, the Recovery Café welcomed John McLernon, and his wife Peggy to inaugurate a custom wood bench made to honour John’s 15 years of service as Streetohome’s founding Board Chair. The bench was made and delivered by Colin Hamilton, owner / craftsman of Thuja Wood Art of Pender Island, BC. Made from reclaimed cedar wood, it was hand-engraved with one of John’s popular quotes, “Stay Curious.”
Chosen Family Pods
Streetohome is exploring ‘Chosen Family Pods’ – a shared housing model that promises to increase affordability and make housing accessible to individuals on a fixed or low income, including those at-risk for, and/or with lived experience of homelessness. Chosen Family Pods involve three or more individuals, who know each other, choosing to live together interdependently and share their spaces and their lives.
A Case for Sharing Lives and Sharing Spaces
A more affordable housing choice could be on its way to BC, if governments are willing to champion the needed incentives, zoning, and efficient approval processes to facilitate the delivery of this housing.
